Norm Gardner Director of Security 401 Energy Limited Former City Councilor and Metropolitan Toronto Police Commissioner
By the time he entered politics over 20 years ago, Mr. Gardner had spent 10 years as an officer in the Canadian Army Militia, been on two Eastern Canadian judo championship teams and was the regional manager for a large pharmaceutical company. Mr. Gardner also worked at his family business, Steeles Bakery. In 1976, Councilor Gardner ran for alderman in North York and won, serving until 1980. At this time, he became a North York controller appointed to Metro council and in 1988 was elected a Metro Councilor.
His interest in security, public safety and military affairs led him to the metropolitan Toronto Police Commission where he continuously serves as commissioner. Mr. Gardner hosted The North American Police Chief annual convention directly after 9-11 and has remained close to Police and security agencies around the world.
